As many of you know, on August 31st, Alex suffered many serious fractures and internal injuries after a severe fall at the cottage. We were airlifted by Ornge Air Ambulance to the closest trauma hospital--Kingston General Hospital.
Being from Toronto, it's been extra difficult going back and forth, but the staff have been amazing at accommodating us and helping make us feel as comfortable as possible (although quite possibly tired of hearing, "You know we're from Toronto, right?".
In particular, the Kingston General Hospital Auxiliary provided Alex's wife, Christine, with a complimentary room to rest. While she hasn't spent much time there, it's made it much easier to be close to Alex and recharge when needed.
We have been overwhelmed with the outpouring of virtual love and support from our family, friends, and colleagues across Canada (and the world thanks to Alex's international travels!). We have had many reach out asking what they can send Alex to let them know they're thinking of him. Please know your kind and supportive words are more than enough. However, in order to show our profound gratitude to KGH and recognize the professionalism and support of its amazing doctors and staff, we have decided to make a donation to the Kingston General Hospital Auxiliary under Alex's name. If you would like to join us in this gift, and in lieu of sending any flowers or gifts for Alex (which are not allowed in his unit in any event), we would welcome and encourage your support with us to show our appreciation to KGH for all they have done for Alex and us.
Thank you again for your love and support. I know many have expressed how they wish they could do more from afar, but your words, thoughts, and prayers mean the world to us as we try to figure out how to get Alex back to Toronto and begin his road to recovery.
